TN: 2019 La Dame de Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

I honestly can’t tell if this is lightly corked, or if it’s just the strong fresh cedar deceiving me. Every time I come back to it after a break I say “corked”, but it’s some pretty tasty wine, even so. Though young and tightly coiled, still amazingly drinkable. Backward deep plum fruit, wood presence is moderate on the palate, tannins are there but not overwhelming. Good medium intensity, plenty of mid-palate strength, nicely balanced overall.

A little more air time, I’m confident it’s not corked. If this is the second wine, I can’t wait to drink the top wine in a few years - or decades lol.

Day 2: not corked. Hasn’t changed from last night, pretty backward, deep fruit, cedar and dried tobacco, good overall structure, probably needs 10-15 years to be what it is intended to be, but drinkable now for a masochist lol. (91 points)

Quite agree. The 2020 I tried recently was much more charming than ‘19 at this point.

2019 Château Montrose La Dame de Montrose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (2/19/2025)
– first glass poured approx. 45 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 45 min. on Day 1; revisited on Day 2 -

NOSE: Day 1: oaky, with savory/juicy purple berry aromas. Day 2: expressive, and now with highly-perfumed floral elements, too; the oak is still there, but it has receded from where it was yesterday.

BODY: violet color of great depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: Day 1: oaky wash, with purple fruits behind; would benefit from time in the cellar; very gentle tannins, with an underlying savory bent; medium acidity; alc. not noticeable (labelled at 14.5%). Day 2: still oaky, with some oaky tannins; more closed-up than yesterday; would give this a good few years in the cellar.
