TN: 2019 François Lumpp - Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge (France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Givry 1er Cru)

Quick little TN on this one, which was opened in a relaxed, party, setting; as such, it did not receive the preparation or time required to help it show its best.

2019 François Lumpp Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Givry 1er Cru (5/28/2022)
– popped and poured –
– tasted first pour approx. 45 min. after opening; tasted a couple pours non-blind over approx. 2 hours –

Big, with medium acidity. Very oaky at first, but this gradually receded — it almost certainly needed way more air than it received. Strong Hold recommendation — 5 years, at least.

Thanks for the note Brian. Have a few of these and the Cras Long & Jus. Any idea on the 13’s or 14’s? The 2009 is singing.

I’ve only opened the ‘19 Clos du Cras Long from Lumpp, and found it quite open, with only a hint of oak (which I am not very sensitive to). Well made wine, on the riper, more modern style relative to many Burg producers.

Hi Mark,
I don’t know about the '13’s or 14’s; I’m pretty late to the Lumpp game, with '16 being the first, and oldest, vintage I’ve tasted.

Thanks for mentioning this; I actually bought twice as much Cras Long as I did the A Vigne Rouge. And the few Lumpps I’ve had have struck me in similar manner as the '19 did you — quite ripe, and larger-scaled, but well-made wine.
