TN: 2019 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese

  • 2019 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (6/21/2022)
Audouze for an hour. Bursting from the glass with pear and slate. Palate is focused and precise. Perfect balance of fruit and minerality with an acid backbone. Everything is in balance here. It’s so hard to pay these premiums over the Prum, but when it shows this incredible level of precision, it’s more than worth it. (97 pts.)

WOWSER! Thanks for the note.

Scharzhofberg (Egon Müllers part) has incredible terroir for Riesling. Unfortunately in vintage 2019 the prices increased rather steep for both Kabinett and Spätlese

Thanks Andrew. The 2009 Kabinett drank like a dream a month and a half ago and is in my WOTY list currently.

More than double in the U.S.

I didn’t really see much of a price increase over the '18. Maybe 10-15% as expected.

2021 Kabinett is being offered at $225 - $250.

Flatiron just offered 2020 Kabinett at $249 amd Spatlese at $299

Thank you for the TN on this wine. I actually have it but wasn’t planning to open for a while. Will it improve with age, or is it there already?

I’m sure it will only get better and gain complexity and depth with 20+ years of age, but it’s absolutely beautiful right now.

2019 Egon definitely peaking now; it’s only downhill from here. [snort.gif]
