TN: 2019 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Bourgogne Côte d'Or

After picking the kid up at the kindergarten and then walking the dog with the stroller as it is raining heavily in a 45 degree angle I felt like having a glass of something red. Never tried a Bouley before but I really like the style here. Definitely on the more elegant side of things. The value is good too, although as I was researching for background info (apparently the grapes come from the commune of Volnay) I came across a US retailer selling this for $69.99 which is just nuts.

Very much 2019 on the nose: immediately approachable, ripely fruit-forward and quite fragrant. Darkish cherry in on the forefront with some cranberry, herbs and minerally tones on the background. Very appealing, if not hugely distinct, however there seems to be just the slightest VA raising its head which for me is a plus. On the palate this likewise shows rich, dark fruit on the entry. Probably thanks to the low 12.5% ABV this is on the lighter, leaner end of 2019s which is very much to my liking, however paradoxically I still find this to have just a bit of warmth to it. There is not much in the way of tannins but there is still a grippy sensation towards the finish and great lift. Despite the fruit expression there is great brightness to this and nice stoniness about the character. The vintage probably brings more heft to what I reckon could be a ballerina of sorts in cooler years. Overall this is another great, well-rounded regional 2019 Burg that should be bought in quantity given the general price hike of vintage 2021.

Thanks for the review, this is certainly another producer we don’t see a lot of and so when I get the opportunity I often buy, may I ask how much you paid for this bottle? Cheers!

You need to start a Bourgogne Rouge thread to consolidate all the ones you’ve tried recently under one roof .

I’m a big fan of your TNs. Thanks!

I really should! I wasn’t planning to be drinking them so often but I guess it is a combination of nice approachable vintages like 2017 and 2019 that accelerated things. If I have time at any point I’ll create a new thread. Happy to hear my notes are of interest to someone :grinning:
