Garnet, somewhat translucent. Nose has a nice concentration of red cherry and raspberry fruits, menthol, and a touch of forest floor.
Palate is more red fruit driven, with just a touch of cedar and wet rocks. nothing super complex but there is a nice mid-palate here. Really a lovely silken texture - not plush, just very elegant and light bodied with some good acidity backing it up and giving it a bit of tension. Nice pleasant lingering finish.
Though certainly an entry level bottling, this is clearly well made and impressive for what it is. One of the best entry level bottlings I’ve had and nice for $30. Excellent stuff and I’m excited to try some of the better Felettig bottlings. (91 pts.)
Just popped one tonight and damn this is good. No hint of a 14.5 wine. I wonder if this isn’t one of those tariff labels that didn’t end up being needed.
Just picked up a case of the '20s from WHWC. I had mostly purchased the Felettig 1ers in the past, but this wine is pushing 1er quality and so crushable.
I don’t really bother with the premier cru if I want something to just open. I opened some older fuees (09 I think) and it was good, but not really in the league of bertheau so I more enjoy the VV for just lovely aromatics and beautiful transparent fruit.
I went pretty deep on the 20s based on the 19s, so looking forward to those. Managed to lock down 1 Echezeux, anyone try that in any vintage? Figured I’d give it some time but based on everything else I’ve tried have some pretty high hopes.
The CM village wines from 19 are all drinking beautifully right now, will definitely pop some 20s when they come in.
Lastly a shout out to the Marsannay Crais - killer bottling at $35-40
I’ve had a few bottles of the Echezeaux from various vintages back to 2012. I like the wines, but don’t think it’s necessarily their best wine. I tend to prefer some of the chambolle 1ers.
I also think given the pricing, the step up from village to 1er cru is both a very significant step up in quality and well worth it.
