2019 Corison Cabernet Franc Helios Sunbasket Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (12/18/2022)
Incredibly young, so much too early to do this, but I wanted to try it. It took 48 hours to fully unwind, and then it was deep red fruit, subtle tobacco and a finishing note of balsam for as clear as Christmas morning. Fabulous structural balance, and a long, long future ahead for this wine.
How long as she been making a CF?
We tasted there recently, and other than the '99 Kronos, this wine impressed me the most. I agree with your notes. Picked up a couple to open down the road.
For a while. I have the 2015, and had a bottle of I think the 2013, but it disappeared.
I also really enjoyed this on a summer trip to Corison. I actually prefer it over the Sunbasket SVD Cabernet Sauvignon, but then again I’m a huge cab franc fan (not a knock on the Sunbasket cab, it’s outstanding too).
I was also really impressed with Cathy’s Anderson Valley Riesling. It’s an awesome wine and deserving of a lot more love. I’d love to see her continue to experiment — needless to say, her Cabs are world class, but her skillful hand clearly extends into so many other varietals.
David like your style lately. 48 hours!
Saturday’s dinner was not a match for this wine, so it got the extra 24 hours.
I have a 2009. I believe she started a few years prior to that (2005?). It was all I could afford in 2011. Plus the person pouring told me it had already been open for three days which impressed me.
Pricing on this?
Cheers.
The only bottles listed on WSPro are from the winery, and they are all magnums, in the $230-270 price range each.
I jumped on the website, and it still shows that they are selling 750s for $115. Tempting, but that’s a lot of cash.
I got it as part of an approximately 15% discounted Thanksgiving holiday pack. Well worth it IMO, especially as I had already been considering buying it at regular price.
