2019 Bogle Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel
Must be better than this Bogle. 78 points and not drinkable. Even the person who brought it poured it out.

Welp. At least we don’t have to suffer through 3 days of tasting notes

Rich got any new material? Your stick is getting tired and extremely negative.

Sometimes if I’m traveling and can not / could not bring wine, this is something I’ll pick up at local stores. Tends to be all over the Western US, and keeps well enough at room temps for number of days. But boy is Petit Sirah chewy / coarse / thick !

What was the conclusion on whether this was truly PS or Durif?

How about this. You stop constantly making references to 3-day tasting notes, and I’ll stop busting your chops about it. Deal? [cheers.gif]

Funny Bogle Petite Sirah story- I used to go through a fair amount of Bogle’s PS. Inexpensive, lively, great QPR, great party wine.
One night in 2012 I was serving a 1996 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages for friends on their anniversary who’d been married in ‘96. I was getting ornery because I could tell at first whiff the bottle was off but was hoping it would transform with some air.
I ran down to the cellar to fetch more 16yo bottles & remembered a ‘96 Bogle PS buried at the bottom of a daily drinker diamond bin I’d been ignoring for years. I opened a Spring Mtn Cab & the Bogle PS as a bit of a joke because it still had the $2.99 price tag stuck to the neck and I wanted to get rid of it w/out throwing it away. A $3 bargain-bin wine didn’t have any business still tasting like real wine after 16 years, but I figured to open it, give it a sniff and pour it down the drain. The PS had a synthetic cork.

The Chateau St Jean chat the bed & was dead, the Spring Mtn was fabulous and the Bogle wasn’t that far behind. It smelled wonderful; tasted like PS, spicy & still had fruit! We had great fun with it over the evening in part because of the Battered $2.99 sticker.
After that night I had even more of a soft spot for Bogle PS and it made me a synthetic cork believer.

20 years ago I traveled about 30% of the time for work. The company I worked for had a $50 per day allowance for food. Most of the places that I traveled to did not have great wine options available locally. Typically, I’d hit the local grocer after work on Monday and pick up something to drink over the next 4 nights with takeout dinner in my room. Bogle Petite Sirah was a go to option. It was always available. It was always tasty and it easily lasted in an open bottle over 4 nights.

I haven’t had this for many years but I’ll always have fond memories.

Bogle consistently makes a very good PS. And for the $$$, it’s a no brainer.

This is a $7.99 wine at Sam’s/Costco. Punches far above its weight as far as I’m concerned.

Maybe Behrens and Hitchcock should have used their synthetic cork supplier.

back in 2003, I was doing some consulting in Kansas and Bogle PS was my go-to wine, easy to find, easy to drink

It wasn’t a true synthetic cork. It was a micro-agglomerated cork made from natural cork Particles.

I feel the same way about Bogle Phantom. Readily available, reasonable price and always a fan favorite.

Bogle Cabernet and Merlot are always reliable and great bargains.

When our wine group does Petite Sarah (granted, it isn’t often) Bogle always shows up and it always punches above its weight class. Never great but it is a consistent value.

+1. For less than $10, this wine is a good value and very consistent.

Drank a lot of this wine when I was in my 20s. It’s by far the best Bogle wine and shockingly good for the money.

After going to a tasting tonight with a quick impression of the wines I really now know why I do 3 day wine review. These two ounce pours and on to the next wine is no way to actually evaluate a wine properly. I am certainly not doing any more offlines with more than six people.
