TN: 2019 Bartolo Mascarello Langhe Freisa (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC)

  • 2019 Bartolo Mascarello Langhe Freisa - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (10/24/2023)
A little reductive and untamed on the nose. Tar, asphalt, black fruits, iron, and violets. Rustic and savory on its subtly petillant palate with dried porcini, tar, more black fruits and ferrous meaty undertones. Structured and a bit rough hewn with plenty of acidity. It's naked, honest, and slightly flawed but that makes this particular wine a little more interesting to me. Objectively, MT's Freisa is a better wine since she stopped doing it this way, but I will miss this unpredictably wild and unique wine's style (at least when it's just a bit weird like this bottle and not fully off). It brings me back to a place close to my heart. It's emotionally much more than objectively delicious, but I really dig this wine.
