2019 Frank Cornelissen Susucaru Rosato - Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane (6/10/2025)
Starting to go the way of the funk! Showing very interesting tea-like flavors to go with the dried raspberries and tilled up earthy strawberry patch. Little browning and tawny-ish...still has a nice snap of sour tarts...blood orange citrus squeeze...cranberry tea...crushed minerals...the florals are more dried potpourri now, earthy, with the same exotics of mulled spices, cinnamon stick, juniper, dried herbs as previous bottles...definitely not as "pretty" as in its youth...yet still very interesting and attention holding with every sip! I still love it! Que the Funkytown song...🎶 (94 points)
2024 is here! Prefer it with a little age, the 24 is crunchy bright, with more bitters in its youth…has that wonderful strawberry and raspberry fruit…wild sage bramble…screaming blood orange acidity…not much funk, yet! Can’t wait for Summer!
Just realized I ordered the 2023…and got the 2024?? Hmmmm
Clean relative to older vintages, or actually clean? If I hadn’t been burned by so many undrinkable bottles years ago, I’d try a newer one. I have little tolerance for brett and VA, and I’m very sensitive to them. Is he still celebrated by the natural wine scene?
i would say actually clean. there is probably still some va in a few reds but not out of line for stylistic effect. ymmv as i am sure mishandled bottles are still more fragile than conventionally made wines. however, i have kept some of the recent vintage single vineyard munjebels reds open and they still showed well on day two with no mouse or off character/degradation. the munjebel bianco is actually one of my favorites tho; quite focused and precise without oxidation and only a moderate use of skin contact for structure and grip.
