TN: 2018 Tiberio Pecorino (Italy, Abruzzi, Colline Pescaresi IGT)

Took a spin and filled out a case of other wines with some Tiberio Pecorino after hearing some good things. Glad I did. Will be my house white. A lot of wine for 20 bucks.

So much pleasure in this wine. For $20. Pale yellow. Floral and lemony. Almost leans Sauv Blanc, but doesn’t ever go there. Citrus and slate and zips of acidity. Youthful. The finish lingers with a real umami character that shows salinity, anise and bright flavors. Really easy to drink.

Love this wine Dennis! I had the 17 last month and had a blast with it.

In fact, my great Eureka moment of 2020 is how amazing Italian whites are in the $15 to 25 range. From the Veneto, Tuscany, especially Campania, Sicily…and many many more. Character, verve, cheery, and easy on the wallet.

Thanks, Dale! Totally agree re: Italian whites: you and I had similar Eureka moments in 2020!

Totally agree, Dale. Try Alto Adige and Friuli too.

If it makes it to your area, try 2019 Vignagiulia Pecorino Offida. It’s under $20 and really delicious. Sometimes Pecorino can get a little soft and banana-like, but this one is tangy and vibrant with more of a pit fruit character.
