TN: 2018 Mt Eden Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard

In all its glory: 2018 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Edna Valley Wolff Vineyard Old Vines.

I couldn’t make up my mind about this wine. On the attack, there are tropical flavors, which are an instant turn off for me, if only because they are an indication that the wine will be rich and flabby all the way through.

Only, in this case, it isn’t.

It has medium body and a long acidic finish. Just not the flavor profile that you expect to come along with that structure.

Didn’t know what to make of it. Still don’t, when you get down to it. Quite well made for circa $20. But not what I was expecting, based on their SCM wines.

That sounds like what I remember from that wine many years ago. Great QPR, bright ample fruit but with good acids and not much oak. Great quaffer and to serve to company.

Lee, like you I get turned off by the tropical notes more because of what comes next. So I get completely confused when the result is what you describe here. Though I do enjoy them much more than tropical/flabby wines.
