TN: 2018 Gramona Corpinnat Imperial (Spain, Catalunya, Corpinnat) - a banger!

2018 Gramona Corpinnat Imperial - Spain, Catalunya, Corpinnat (3/17/2026)
The is banging right out of the gate! Very fine, tight bubbles, although the mousse dissipates quickly. Soft apple, quince(?) and mineral/flint/smoke on the palate.

Love the mouthfeel. There’s some leesy creaminess that tells me this has softened with age, but don’t get me wrong; this is ebullient without being rowdy. It makes the 2022 Raventos BdB I enjoyed last week feel like a slap to the face.

There’s a nice smoky after-image / echo on the finish that comes all the way back to the tip of my tongue. Noice. It totally stands up to Tulip Tree Trillium triple-crème -- in fact I think that’s probably why I'm digging the smoky notes. Also paired great with the rest of my “girl dinner” consisting of mixed nuts, prosciutto, and a croissant of turkey, arugula, and dijon. I gave up sushi for Lent, but this would dynamite with a California roll with a smidge wasabi. The price is approaching $40 but I’d be buyer if I can find it again.

Scoring for exceeding my expectations. Outstanding. Drink now with glee or hold for delayed gratification. (94 points)
