- 2018 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre Old Vine Enz Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Lime Kiln Valley (5/24/2025)
I am swiftly running out of D&R Enz Mourvèdre. Only four bottles left, and really three as this one is largely gone. It’s leaving great memories though, as the fruit is still fresh, and the underlying complexity is almost too much to comprehend. It’s a kaleidoscopic mix of herbs, spices, and earth - anchored to the meaty core of Mourvèdre that drives the song, like Phil Lesh’s bass line that announces The Other One. The weight of that core is still ethereal. Power without heaviness. That is the magic of D&R Mourvèdre, and with Enz it’s nearly the apotheosis.
Cool note David. We were at the Extradimensional Tasting Room yesterday to pick up an order and Hardy had several bottles open. One was the 2016 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvedre Old Vine Enz Vineyard. Dark, concentrated, fresh and just starting to enter a young drinking stage.
Remarkable stuff, the Enz is vineyard special!
Tom
Thanks for that update Tom. I still have a bottle of the 2016!
Hehehe sorry I missed you Tom! He had opened those bottles for me earlier. Completely agree about the Enz, so evocative of place, and really starting to show its full potential. It’s too bad about the drama.
Thank you, David! I haven’t opened an '18 in a few years and appreciate the note.
The '16 we tried this weekend was is starting to open with what feels to be another 6+ years of positive development ahead.
