Last week, I had Daou’s 2019 ‘regular’ cabernet, which for $20, put a surprised smile on my face
This is the 2018 ‘Reserve’
2 hour decant
Dark, opaque ruby, purple sheen
Cassis, dark fruits, dark chocolate aromas
In the mouth, solid acidity, a medium wall of sweet tannins, obvious oak influence, fleshy full body, cautiously inching to a precipice of over-ripeness, but not taking the leap
The finish, though, surprisingly, doesn’t exactly live up to its abundant body…falling slightly, and sadly, a bit short
