TN: 2018 Daou Paso Robles Cabernet Reserve

Last week, I had Daou’s 2019 ‘regular’ cabernet, which for $20, put a surprised smile on my face

This is the 2018 ‘Reserve’

2 hour decant

Dark, opaque ruby, purple sheen
Cassis, dark fruits, dark chocolate aromas
In the mouth, solid acidity, a medium wall of sweet tannins, obvious oak influence, fleshy full body, cautiously inching to a precipice of over-ripeness, but not taking the leap
The finish, though, surprisingly, doesn’t exactly live up to its abundant body…falling slightly, and sadly, a bit short

Costco has the regular cab for $18.50, and the reserve for $50. Hard to believe the reserve is worth the extra $$.

I thought it’s worth the money. I’m not sure if Soul of a Lion is worth it. Yes, it’s very good but what’s the point of bringing a rep if the highest end wines are already allocated. I think the quality bump is quite big the regular Cab drinks quite thin for me.
