Very stemmy on the nose upon opening, but the pedigree was apparent; the texture was already incredibly silky and elegant, with powdery tannins and excellent structure. After a couple of hours, the stems knit together nicely with a bit of spice and purpley-red fruits, making for an enveloping bouquet that seems to draw you in, perfumed, floral, and utterly seductive.
Was lucky enough to do a zoom tasting of the 2018s a few months ago. Out of the 2018 villages, I found the NSG to be slightly blowsy. The Chambolle was the standout for me (and I think consensus for the tasters), besting even the VR.
I’m jealous! I had one of the 17 Hautes Mazières that was beautiful, but the only other cuvées I’ve had have been the 17 and 18 NSG so I’ll defer to your experience. Would love to see Chambolle terroir in Charles Lachaux’s hands.
I had been buying Arnoux-Lachaux but find it hard now to see offers and when they come in are quite high. The wines are incredibly nice. Some of the best in Burgundy. This is one where I might just say in a few years that I enjoyed them when I could afford them. Like Liger-Belair wines.
Bought a few but I’m holding, hope I live that long!
I think the consensus was that the chambolle was the prettiest while the Vosne was the more serious wine. But I may have that backwards. I agree with you that on the palate the NSG got weirdly soupy.
+1
The Haute Maziere was a serious bottle.
Chambolle was definitely the prettiest that night.

I couldn’t stop smelling the Chambolle. Planning to do a side-by-side with the VR soon. Early on, the Pav said we should taste through Lachaux together, but he later picked you instead of me. Wtf Mark.
