  • 2017 Saxum G2 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles Willow Creek District (4/15/2020)
    Decanted 6hrs. Being my first of the 17 Saxum vintage and first G2, I was really excited to give this youngster a go. Like a lot of 17’s, It showed a lot early, with the Grenache portion (which is a little over 50%) running out ahead with a ripe, very forward, strawberry fruit that had a candied quality. A bit of heat in the early going as well. After about 90 minutes, this really formed into shape; notes of potpourri and lavender, and a closing firmness of mineral laced tannins held the fort together. As Justin said in his release letter, the 17’s should drink well early but the 16’s will need time. Seems right to me. (94 pts.)

Dale, that’s a good note. I’m waiting on mine but it sounds like they have promising lives ahead of them.
