2017 Ridge Zinfandel Essence Benito Dusi Ranch
Opened by a friend. 375ml bottle. 100% Zinfandel. 14.7% alcohol. Almost port like with blackberry liquor notes. This semi dessert wine had notes of cassis and dark cocoa. Full bodied. Nice wine but it just didn’t do much for me though. 86 points.

Not a fan either, though vintages I tasted much older.
FWIW I dislike Port wines.
It is much too young. I have a friend with a stash of early 90’s essence. They need 30 years to show best
I also think they get better with age, less port-like and more similar to Recioto. I recently had the '68 Essence blind and called it a 90s Bussola Recioto.
Yeah, just the title had me thinking way too young. They do tend to be simple when young and evolve beautifully with extended aging.
I think the friend who opened this just took delivery of 6 of them and wanted to try one now.
