2017 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Boekenoogen Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (8/9/2020)
My memory of Loring wines stretches back to the 2000 vintage, and the pair of Pinots from Garys’ and Clos Pepe. Brian and I met up a few times, notably at Tanglewood in Massachusetts, and at his winery in Lompoc in 2004 while the Red Sox were busy winning the World Series.
This wine takes me back, as it strikes a chord that is reminiscent of the Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noirs, though this one is darker/plummier. There’s a layer of spice cake on top of the fruit, and it’s scary drinkable. Not much in the way or structure, so I would not hold this past a few years, but it’s just pure fun to drink. That’s what I always liked about Brian’s wines, and what I continue to like.
