TN: 2017 Franny Beck Pinot Noir La Chenaie Vineyard

  • 2017 Franny Beck Pinot Noir La Chenaie Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (4/16/2020)
The third ‘leg’ of my Franny Beck trifecta.
Pretty ‘dull carmine’ color that nearly glows, intense and fragrant nose of dark cardamom, boysenberries and bright red raspberries. Bigger and bolder than the Johan, this shows notes of cola, C.Howards gum and ripe strawberries. A bit flamboyant when compared to Johan but fun and precise nontheless, albeit a bit more one-dimensional and in some need of bottle-time. Seems to be a bit more angular while sweeter in profile. Long and true and finish just…goes. I would place this one deeper into the cellar. (90 pts.)

Do you have the 2016? I had a bottle last week after finishing a lovely Scherrer zin. It may sound odd, but the 16 was an explosion of fresh strawberries, which then morphed into a red rasberry compote - it was awesome, and I was surprised coming on the heels of a zin.
