TN : 2017 Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne; 2019 Penfolds Bin 704 Napa Cab

2017 Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne
Looking the goods, it shows impeccable balance and ripe acids. White stone fruits of good density, a good acid spine that is mouthwatering. The finish is fine, long and engaging. There’s a wee hint of early development but it’s nicely composed and fresh at this stage. Perfect with scallops.

2019 Penfolds Bin 704 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
This is more Penfolds than Napa, but it has lovely bright cassis fruit, a powdery, fine tannin imbued texture and a balanced, dusty finish. Good drinking despite its youth.

de Montille whites are very good.

Had the 2018 penfolds recently and also thought it was drinking nicely.

Kent, what do you mean by that? These have been, if I recall, under DIAM for quite some time.

Just a smidge of what I call little white mushrooms, like the merest whiff of some tertiary aromas, but it’s lurking in the background and just adds complexity. The fruit, oak and malo characters though are dominant and I would consider this wine good for another two decades.
