- 2016 Wendouree Shiraz Malbec - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley (11/4/2025)
Very youthful under its screwcap closure. Blueberry and mulberry fruits. A hint of licorice, some coal and a touch of earth. A crisp wine that is understated with a savoury edge. Graphite like tannins give some chew to the finish. Engaging florals with air. A terrific wine.

I have owned two bottles of Wendouree, and had one a year or two ago. I wish those were available in the US.
How much do they sell for over in Australia? The few that trickle over here are quite expensive.
Hi Chris,
on the secondary market they are quite expensive. This would probably be around AUD$200+. Purchased on release, direct from the winery it was less than a quarter of that.
kind regards
Jeremy

I’ve been drinking Wendouree for many years. It is an iconic Australian producer. Check out the photos of their vines on the Internet. They look like tree trunks. Head trained. I’ve only seen their wines on an American restaurant wine list once in the last 25 years, at Disneyland’s Napa Rose restaurant.

Wendouree did very well in 2016 from what I have seen. 2012 and 2016 are two vintages where across the board their wines excelled.
