TN: 2016 Ridge Geyserville (USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley)

Pretty much typical Geyserville, with ripe berry fruit and dusty, warm herbs. Every sip just makes me want another. It does have notable tannic structure, so with the ample fruit it can certainly evolve for many more years. I just have a hard time keeping my hands off of my stash of half bottles.

One of my favorite Geyserville’s. Thanks for the notes. I am looking forward to trying the 2020 Geyserville soon!

So many great recent Geyservilles, but I’ve not tried any of my 16s yet as I’m focused on my stash of older vintages. My fav for currently consumption is the 02, followed by the 09.

Love Geyserville. Every time I open one, I literally ask myself why I don’t drink them more often.

Had the 12 earlier in the week. Very nice but I agree that the 09 was a notch up. Still a decent amount of structure and tannin so I will let the others rest. Can’t think of a better value for wine that is fun to put down and watch evolve.

Yeah, I doubt any of us buy enough Geyserville and I often load up on it. But I still find myself trying to hang on to my stash for a while or otherwise it would be gone in weeks.

I tried a ‘16 recently and agree - excellent today with room to run. Echoing the other sentiments, only 3 left of that vintage since it’s really easy to drink these young. ‘18 hit us the right way and we ended up getting 27 bottles total in order to sit on 6 750s and 2 mags for aging. 2020 certainly didn’t help. ‘19 seems a bit more primary so it’s been easier to lay off those.

The '16 is drinking well now, it wasn’t drinking well for me at release. I was surprised to find that these sometimes need 2-3 years to gain some complexity.

Thanks for the note! This makes me want to open one soon.

Big fan of the 15(had a whole bottle last night watching the slap fight), as well as the 11. Love the brightness with restraint in those.

Wasn’t there a thread recently claiming Ridge has ruined this wine since 2013 or something with their oak regimen?

Not that I mind people having different opinions, but it’s nice to read some of the folks in this thread having good experiences with more recent vintages. I’m mostly trying to age mine and haven’t had a younger one in a couple of years.

That was largely about the Santa Cruz Mtns. Cabernet.

I found this to be exotic, fresh and nuanced. Fruits, spices and florals in polyamorous harmony.
