2016 Marchesi Mazzei “Philip” Toscana IGT- Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (10/18/2021)
This was quite the surprise! A Costco whim purchase($24)…label looked cool…some decent reviews, and 2016 vintage sealed the deal. The wine is fantastic! Pure Cabernet fruits…blueberries, currants, dark cherry…yet showing a little more of a rustic red berryness like raspberry jam…SUPER polished and creamy smooth, yet still a nice dryness of cedar dusted tannins, and a tart sour skin acidic lift, dried rose/orange potpourri…letting us know what country we are really in! Not shy in oak…has some mint and vanilla to it…American???..website confirms…18mos FR/AM 30% new…very well balanced and integrated…such an appealing mouthful of Cabernet that’s not too overblown…held up just as well next day. You looking for a killer Napa Valley Cab under $50…drink TWO bottles of this! (93 pts.)
You are a bad man Buzz…I can’t tell you how many times you have posted TN’s of a wine I have never heard of, and your style of writing, coupled with the pics of the wine in the glass in your cellar has caused me to immediately go to WineSearcher to see where I can buy a few bottles! Between you and de Negoce, I am running out of room in my cellar, and going broke at the same time!..
