TN: 2016 Kutch Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

In honor of Jamie’s latest release I popped the 2016 McDougal. As you can see below these wines deliver in every aspect. Cheers!

At pop-n-pour this wine is tasty with high quality fruits but intense. After a solid decant (90 minutes) it is fulsome yet balanced showing full-bodied fruit and a long, lingering finish. Much more complex and desirable given some air. A brilliant Sonoma Pinot showing the best of New World vines in a restrained Old World style. Can drink for many more years to come.

    Decanted at 11am:
Nose: Opulent and aromatic red cherries; classic sandy loam soil evident
Palate: Rich, silky intensity on the attack; definitely a bit tight at pop-n-pour; deep, dark red cherries with raspberry notes; lengthy powerful finish

    Revisit at 12:30pm:
Nose: pleasantly soft and aromatic rose petal notes; an easy enjoyable herbaceous note wafts in the background
Palate: Gentle on the attack; balanced profile shines: full-bodied with earthy red cherries and raspberries; red and blue fruits with a hint of savory, gamey meat
Finish: lengthy finish (60+ seconds); savory raspberries and blackberries; quite tasty
