TN: 2016 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

  • 2016 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (1/13/2026)
Took a little while to get going but boy was it good when it decided to fire up. Fennel tops, mint, smoky mineral, flint and salt. Rich and layered. Sappy and unctuous through the mid. Concentrated, deep and chewy. A hint of truffle and honey. Right in the zone right now.

I’ve had some surprisingly good experiences with 2016 Chablis the last few years. I probably wouldn’t be looking to cellar them longer, but they can show really well - a 2016 Dauvissat Vaillons last spring was smoky mineral pure and precise.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the 2016 white burgundy I’ve had lately; PYCM CC and Bouchard Cabotte were both really good a few months ago.

PYCM always seems to nail it - even in off vintages.
