TN: 2016 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo)

Once it opened up, this was a tasty match to Kenji’s recipe for no-holds barred lasagna bolognese.

Decanted for one hour and needed every bit of that and more. Dark, ink-like purple color. Scents of plum and black cherry, and some bright tangy fruit. Palate showed what felt like VA for the first hour, which was a tad worrisome, actually. But at the two hour mark, everything popped and what remained was clean and energetic. Very floral with a long, drying finish. Very good. Give it a lot of air, or just be smart and wait 5 more years. At least.

Good selection of MdA downtown here in Edmonton.

Dennis, have you ever tried the old vine they export to US vs. the normal version they sell in EU?

Kris- My experiences are exclusively with the normal/young vines stuff, both Montepulciano and Trebbiano. Honestly, fairly new to paying attention to EP and didn’t know of the two versions until Levi Dalton pointed out here last summer in another thread.
Want to try the OV stuff.
