TN: 2016 Caves Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

  • 2016 Caves Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (3/23/2022)
MUCH better than my last bottle, which tasted tropical like a muscat, very insipid…a crappy wine from the Macon? This bottle is back to Chablis! GC weight…showing the ripeness of vintage, yet not as tropical…more citrus and crisp apples…killer dry extract coming through…crushed limestone, sea air, chive…waxy banana skin with a little spearmint…Mmmmm Raveneau?! Has a nice creamy sheen to it…nothing powerful or protruding…very subtle and calm…almost something you’d find in a finely aged Chablis? Drink these while letting your 14’s age…my faith just might have been restored with the Caves Dup! (94 pts.)

Last bottle…little tropical but VERY Chablis! Warmer glass temp really brings out the dry extract and crushed oyster shell…dried honey…drink these now! Don’t play the pox roulette…this one just doesn’t seem like an ager. Like it right here.

non-commerical post: I imported Duplessis from 1986 until 2021.

Duplessis famously makes very age-worthy Chablis, but Buzzini has this right. 2016 is a fast-maturing vintage by house standards. I’ve had the '16 Clos a few times but didn’t buy any to cellar. Oddly, the '16 1er Crus are not as advanced and will be good now and for another 5 years. 2017s will live a long time.
