TN: 2015 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto Toscana IGT (Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT)

  • 2015 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (6/1/2019)
Day 1: Pop and pour. Iodine, leather, floral, dust and lighter red currants. Short to medium finish. This wine lacks concentration and is quite watery. Might be young and score withheld on day 1.
Day 2: Time has not improved this wine much. Roasted chestnuts, light red currants, mushrooms, floral and dust. Very short, uninspiring finish. Not impressed on this wine. 85 points
Day 3: Opening up a bit but still lacks complexity. Picks up some stone and wood character. A bit better than day 2. 87 points
Recommendation: After trying this over 3 days an easy pass for me. Just really a boring, non eventful wine. (87 pts.)

I’ve always found I enjoy their lower level Le Difese more than Guidalberto, though I’ve admittedly never had it more than a year or two past release.

I don’t think 2015 was a great year for Cab or Merlot, look to 2016 for more pleasure. 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 were all solid, but this wine needs a warmer vintage IMO.

Yes, we sell it, and yes it is more difficult for the asking price in cooler or difficult vintages.

I am not a big fan of this. I have had it a few times when they pour it at Zachy’s and I have never liked it enough to buy it. Not a bad wine, but nothing special.
