TN: 2015 Miani Sauvignon

  • 2015 Miani Sauvignon - Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Colli Orientali del Friuli (11/26/2017)
Only the third Miani white I have had, so take this with a grain of salt.

Drunk over several days.

Almost painfully intense on the first night. Rich, yet with great cut. The nose is grassy and herbal, with yellow fruits, lemon skin, and a ripeness of fruit that tended toward pineapple. A full bodied, dense, and very intense wine that reminded me of Dagueneau, but with riper fruit. This is almost toothsome, but somehow remains balanced and clear. It has terrific focus and precision. A serious, dense, layered, structured wine that seems to walk the line of almost too intense. Impressive more than loveable to me at this stage, but did I say impressive, because it really is. It’s like drinking a Grand Cru in a primordial stage. At this point, a glass is plenty for me. I look forward to seeing what this does in the cellar.

Nice to have a note on this. Because Miani’s are so dear, I haven’t been able to pull them at-will, but they are meant to be aged a while before drinking them (a few years is what I’ve heard).

Thanks for the note Todd. Have you had the 2015 Saurint or Zitelle Cava/Alte yet? I concur that the 2015 Miani whites all need time; we had a chance to taste all 4 of the 2015 sauvignon blanc bottlings and the “regular” Sauvignon was perhaps the most backward for me.

I bought a bunch of these based on Antonio’s review (and a very good price). I gave one to a friend. I didn’t know that he and his wife don’t like Sauvignon Blanc. Well now they do! Stunning stuff.
