TN: 2015 Dirty & Rowdy Old Vine Mourvedre Evangelho Vineyard

Wanted to take this youngster for a test drive and it did not disappoint. This is different from the epic 2014 D&R Evangelho but no less delicious. Double decanted for 2 hours, this bottle had the familiar floral rosy aromatics that most D&R reds have but a bit less than some other single vineyards. Also aromas of cherry and an earthy tobacco note. Many D&R reds lean toward red fruit flavors. Here there is some red raspberry but the lovely flavors of black cherry and dark plum dominate. Add in some wet soil and sweet herb - tobacco notes and this becomes a complete and delicious wine. Plenty of acidity and some ripe tannin to keep it all in balance. Excellent now with a good decant but will improve for several years. Good match with some glazed pork chops.

The Evangelho signature does stand out. Love that vineyard, and what Hardy allows it to do.

Just now seeing this. Thanks for the note, Tom!

I will let mine sleep for a while longer.

Letting any you have sleep is a good idea but the Evangelho Vineyard is unique in that the wines always seem to have extra concentration that allows them to be enjoyed with a nice long decant.
