TN: 2015 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2015 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Opened by Bill. A blend of all 13 permitted varietals with the largest proportions being 30% each of Mourvèdre and Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Counoise. Decanted 5 hours before drinking. Very little sediment. Crimson color. The smoothest of the 3 CdP’s opened at the dinner and my favorite. For a wine that is notoriously slow to age this was drinking very well. Showing garrigue character with notes of black fruit and forest floor. Integrated tannins on the finish but no rush to drink. 95 points.

fwiw:
just came from a tasting with
a flight of
2000 Beaucastel
2000 Pegau
2001 Pegau
2000 Les Cailloux

Surprise?:
2001 Pegau won … with a hair space ahead of
Pegau 2000
clearly 3rd Les Cailloux 2000
far behind Beaucastel 2000

3 great (and one very good) wine(s).
Beaucastel was kind of (too) easy going …

We tasted a lot more …

I served one blind in a group of Tempiers. It even pleased the never before 20 years crowd.

Visited Chateau Pegau last year and have multiple bottles in the cellar. 2010 Cuvee Reservee is drinking great now. Go visit if you are in the area.

… been there many times …

Domaine du Pegau. Chateau Pegau is the name they use for their Cotes de Rhone holdings, Maclura for instance.

:+1: - right

Good to know on the 2010. I had been holding off on those.

At our dinner we had this 2015 Beaucastel, a 2006 Pegau and a 2010 Les Cailloux. Different vintages but the same wineries.
