Having reported on the 2016 Antoniotti Nebbiolo Coste della Sesia a few weeks ago the 2015 Antoniotti Nebbiolo Bramaterra is the “big brother” in just about every way. From the oldest vines on the property the Bramaterra has more red cherry - currant concentration, more pronounced aromatics of rose, clove and mint. Where the Coste della Sesia is elegant and approachable the Bramaterra has more structure, the acid and tannin framing the rich fruit, tar and spice. The wine is youthful but with perfect balance.
Had the wine with a variety of pizza and while it was a good match, a heartier dish would have been even better. Excellent bottle of Nebbiolo.
I’ve been trying a few mountain nebbys of late. Best success was a 2009 Produttori di Carema Riserva, which is really firing on all cylinders at this point (and easily bested a 2011 Le Piane Boca, 3x the price). Will look for this Antoniotti, which I have not tried.
Chris, the Antoniotti Bramaterra was a first for me also and count me impressed. Nice aromatics, plenty in reserve for the future but enjoyable at this stage. Have only had the 2015 vintage of the wine. Not familiar with other vintages.
