TN: 2014 Tercero - Albariño C5 Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley)

2014 Tercero Albariño C5 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (7/20/2018)
– cracked and poured –
– tasted non-blind on Day 1 and again on Day 5 –

NOSE: new carpet smell; faintly tropical and minerally; floral. Day 5: fuller fruit aromas today — somewhat reminiscent of Chenin – hypothetical Chenin/Sauv. Blanc blend.

BODY: medium golden yellow color; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: some petrol; medium to medium+ acidity; light mineral; very light fruit. Day 5: fruit more present today than on Day 1, otherwise the same. 13.2% alc. not noticeable; more mineral-driven (wooly) than the usual Albarino — my mind keeps thinking of Savennieres. gut impression score: 87 – 88.

50, 5, 11, 15, 7 = (88 pts.)

Thanks for the tasting note, Brian!!!

This sounds like a really unique interpretation of the grape. I have always gotten a stony, apple-and-white-peach collage of flavors from Albariño. Then again, I have not tasted a Californian one.
