TN: 2014 Seven Hills Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley

  • 2014 Seven Hills Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (4/19/2018)
Day 1: Subtle nose of cherry, dust and plum. On the palate some nice spices, cherry, plum, dust and cedar notes. Palate exceeds the nose and is full of flavor. Finish is medium plus and good acidity. This is a well made Washington State wine without the over oak treatment. 90 points
Day 2: Similar to day 1
Day 3: Nose is lacking again in relationship to the palate. It does pick up some black licorice. The palate is bursting with flavor and swirling this wine open pouring is a must. Asian spice, black currants, crushed rock, violets and sour cherries. Good acidity and flavorful finish. Medium plus. This is an outstanding value.
Recommendation: I would cellar this for a few years. If you plan on drinking now 3 hour plus decant. 91 points (91 pts.)

Nice note, thanks for posting. I really like Seven Hills, but I usually like the Ciel du Cheval bottling better. The Seven Hills can be a really good deal in most vintages though. I’m still struggling with WA Cabs in general. In IMHO it seems like it takes a number of years for WA wines to really open up. I may stick a few away for 10 years or so and see what happens. Cheers!

Nice note, and I like the progression over a few days.
