2014 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gains - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (3/10/2026)
This wine is GORGEOUS! Starts with the color...shimmering gold/green tinge...nose...bowl full of pitted orchard fruits, lemon chiffon, mint, exotic honey butter, crushed flint smoke...in the mouth...RICH and glycerol, yet BEAMING with fresh lemon/lime/pineapple squeeze acidity, crushed rocks...making the mouthfeel tantalizing! It's not a powerhouse...drinks very elegant, with sneaky power...has all this hits...white flowers, iodine, dry extract, well integrated reduction...finish blows your mind with candied fruits, salted butter, chiseled rock quarry...making you salivate for more! Blown away by this bottle...long life ahead for sure! (97 points)
It’s a bit different because it’s two climats that have the same name, rather than being one vineyard shared between two communes. The name means “reclaimed field”, meaning a parcel that was cleared of wood/scrub. Of the two I think the Puligny terroir is probably the better, but it’s also uneven as there is an historic part that’s adjacent to and quite similar to Truffière, and then a part that was cleared using heavy machinery in the 1970-80s that’s a lot of broken stone and not so interesting.
