TN: 2014 Pierre Morey Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

  • 2014 Pierre Morey Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (12/17/2020)
This is a tremendous BB here! Second bottle confirms the first…this has killer 2014 lemon citrus cut…pure crystalline orchard fruits…creamier than one would expect from a BB, yet all the classics I love in white burgundy…chalky crushed limestone, tart lemon/lime squeeze, saline minerality, slight match strike. Wonderful smoothness and balance…lemon curd, lime blossom florals…not huge in complexity and concentration by any means…more subtle and “Meursault-lite” if you will. Might be mistaken for a village level, but does fall a little short in the 1er level. But it’s all in there…and for the price…AMAZING every-day-er if you had enough bottles! (93 pts.)

Nice note, Buzz. I just got into PYMC two vintages ago. Absolutely love everything I’ve tried. Had a shot to buy some 2014’s recently at very fair prices (I don’t recall which specifically). Your note has me excited to try them.

Different Pierre here, this is Pierre Morey who made Leflaive’s wines for years.

Nice, especially as this is still very moderately priced. Thanks for the note.

D’oh. Thanks for the clarification Kris.

Too many Morey’s or not enough, depending on how you look at it!

I had a 99’ bourgogne a few years back and it was incredible. Sneaky, underrated producer whose wines age very well.

Can someone direct me to the 2017’s of this, as I’ve almost blown through my case of 14! Hard wine to find for some reason. [cheers.gif]

Good summary of the Morey family tree, along with a diagram.

Then there’s the Colin family…
