TN: 2014 McGah Family Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Scarlett

2014 McGah Family Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Scarlett - USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford (2/14/2018)
A big nose of cherry and blueberry, and a little alcoholic heat that never quite blew off even after 4 hours in the decanter.
On the palate, big time cherry/black cherry partnered with deep cassis. A few CT notes marked creme de cassis or liqueur and I agree. Earthy/dusty undertones + herbs lurk beneath a fruit driven profile. The alcoholic heat dulls the delineation of flavor and (for my palate) detracts.

After double checking where McGah Vineyard is located, the Rutherford profile totally makes sense.
Big bodied, bit of a tannic bite. I’m noting a cherry cough drop on the long finish.

Extraction and heat levels are a little outside my comfort zone, but I think this is a well made wine with some upside over the next 5-10 years. 90-92 range. (91 pts.)

I really dig the label, perfect wine for Valentine’s Day dinner of Flannery filets with assorted mushrooms and elote style corn!

Another excellent wine by Mike Smith!!!
