This is pretty much what Baga is supposed to taste like, or expected to taste like. The fruit is on the darker spectrum, showing signs of maturity in its depth, but always very fresh. The acidity is unashamed and the tannin verges on the angular without being unpleasant. It has the temerity to tell you it will most likely always taste like this throughout its lifespan - which should be a long one. Some wines comfort you by fulfilling your expectations, in the moment and continuously.

That is IMO an excellent description of what to expect from baga. I do really like it as a wine grape.

Great note - the biggest wine revelation I had traveling to Portugal a number of years ago was finding so many bottles of Baga from the likes of Luis Pato/Poco do Lobo/Sidonio Soua going back to the 80s for under 30 euro - readily available on wine lists and shelves. And trying so many. Baga is eternal.

Thank you, Tomas. You’re reminding me that I need to open some of my Patos. One is a magnum of 1996 Quinta do Ribeirinho - Pe Franco!
Luis and Filipa are two of the most charming winemakers I’ve ever met.
