TN: 2014 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Valmur - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (6/27/2023)
Monet couldn't paint a better color for Chablis in this wine...GORGEOUS nose of crushed oyster shell, lemon verbena, exotic honey, green apple skin...little shy of GC weight, yet plenty of depth and richness on the palate...2014 acidity really brightens the CUT in this wine! As it warms in the glass...shows classic Chablis...chalky limestone, lemon/lime/green apple tartness, flint strike, sea air funk...a slight mint dry extract...lemon tree blossoms...really balanced well with a pleasing feel of ala Raveneau waxiness that just caresses the palate...a more subtle GC Chablis which works perfectly here...LOVE this bottle...seems to be very youthful and in no hurry to grow old and flabby. A total winner! (95 points)

I had been wishing I had more, but just extracted 8 scattered bottles from Envoyer that I hadn’t known were available (Samuel Billaud, Billaud-Simon, Chablisienne).

@B_Buzzini

I love their GC’s, but missed the 2014’s. Have you tried the Les Clos, Les Preuses, Bougros or Grenouilles?

Cheers,
Warren

In 2014? Looks like I’ve had the Preuses…bought a 6 pack, all gone, one was corked. I tend to suck these wines down like water, so I try to pick them up with age at auction from time to time. Great wine to take to Hawaii!!! :smiley:

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (8/29/2022)
What a SUPER wine to take to the beach! This bottle was firing on all cylinders…rich and creamy GC weight with shimmering gold and green tinge of ocean goodness! Classic crushed oyster shell, sea air, chalky limestone, tart lime…has that wonderful dry extract…little wax…pretty white flower florals…dried honey…SCREAMS Chablis! Killer bottle! (95 pts.)

Thanks for taking one for the team. I have 3 bottles of Valmur and have no intention of opening one any time soon. I bought 5 different 14’s, pretty much all when K&L was selling them for a song (Valmur was $39, iirc). Even Les Venerables (old vines AC) isn’t ready yet. That cost all of $19.

I did open '10 Grenouilles recently and it was firing on all cylinders. I have one bottle of '10 Preuses which I’m going to save for my milestone birthday next year.

Well those didn’t last long! Such a brilliant wine! Anyone ever have a sucky 2014 White Burg?

I still have the 3 bottles I purchased from K&L. I have no intention of opening one any time soon. A couple of nights ago, I opened my last bottle of '14 Fevre “Champs Royaux”. A $15 Costco purchase. It was terrific. If Chablis AC are now drinking well, I’m sure as hell not opening a Grand Cru!
