2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Durant Vineyard- USA, Oregon (5/4/2018)
Decanted. Wine opens with an hour in the glass. Medium pale yellow, urgent, good cut, and a nice finish. If I had more, I’d lay these down for another 5-10 years, as I think they’ll become more beautiful with age. My wife just remarked, “this is the best chard I’ve had in a long while…” Excellent. (93 pts.)
Hey Scott…I can tell you liked it and I’m not trying to pick at your note, but can you tell me more about the aromas, flavors, body, acidity?
Just asking as I am interested in the wine but urgent, good cut, and nice finish don’t tell me much…
Or…you could tell me to p!ss off and buy my own bottle!
Ha, no worries! Tasted more like Chablis to me. Some similarities to Ceritas, another chard I really like. Lots of lemon, some acid (but balanced), and a tiny bit of oak. It was medium bodied, good finish, not tart at all. I think a few years would smooth some corners, but it’s drinking well now. Hope that helps.
Marcus is a rockstar with Chardonnay. Pinot too, but his Chardonnay always make me excited about drinking it. Though I prefer the Whistling Ridge, this is special also.

Damn this is good. On the nose, what I think folks describe as "reductive" notes, but I'm not positive. It's that distinct aroma on many white Burgs that evokes a pleasant almost sulphur-like/smokey notes, but in a very good way. So vibrant and young at 11 years, with excellent brightness but also underlying richness of delicate stone fruit. So good, and while in the window, this could age for an impressive number of years yet.
Hey Brandon, I have had 3 bottles of the 14 Richards Cuvee and it might be in the top 3 OR Chards I have ever had the pleasure to drink. So this does not surprise me at all about the Durant.
