TN: 2014 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat Special Selection (USA, California, Napa Valley)

2014 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat Special Selection - USA, California, Napa Valley (11/8/2025)
Popped and poured at cellar temp. Beautiful dark violet color, looks very young. Lovely nose - dusty earth, blackberry fruit and a hint of eucalyptus. A bit more disjointed on the palate - quite a bit of acid on the attack with the blackberry fruit showing up more on the finish. Tannins resolved. Feels like an awkward adolescent phase? Not sure if it will improve with age or not.

I had a ‘13 from a magnum about 10 months ago. It didn’t impress much either.

Guess it didn’t get the 2-hr min decant from the winemaker?

I decanted the ‘13 for almost 4 hours and still felt disappointed in the results.

For what it is worth, I have liked Merrill’s wines very much, so this was an outlier. It got a bit better with air, but still was muddled.

The 2014 Lady Sapphire was delicious a couple of weeks ago.
