2014 Domaine Vocoret et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (4/5/2023)
I get so giddy when I see shiny gold and green color on a WB with some age...had this wine a few weeks ago, and quickly bought more. It is brilliant! Opens with some iodine and crushed oyster...the fruit is pure pitted orchard...green apple, white peach, apricot...has that 2014 intensely fresh squeezed lemon/lime citrus...KILLER dry extract in this...chalky crushed limestone, lemon tarts...has a wonderful balance of sours, ripeness, dryness, and cream...age only showing slight complexities of dried honey, triple cream brie, blanched almonds...oh yeah...don't forget the salty sea air and iodine funk...making this SO SO Chablis! Love this wine! (95 points)
Thanks Buzz. Haven’t had the MdT, but the 14 Foret has punched way above its $28 price point. Subsequent vintages have been solid to good, but not at the level of the 14. The 2014 Vocoret Les Clos was also excellent the one time I had it, having two more, maybe its time to crack one open. Cheers.
I had the 14 Clos the day after I first had the MdT…I was worried when I saw the bottles as the wine looked a lot darker that the MdT’s…but for some reason they bottle the Clos in a darker browner bottle?? Btw, WHY would anyone use a brown tinted bottle for white wine??? Anyway…the wine was youthful and tighter than the MdT…I was in the beginning of a cold, so I didn’t take note of the bottle. Also picked up some 14 Vaillons as well.
