TN: 2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

  • 2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (6/4/2025)
A true “holy sh**” wine, this was about as classic as modern Chablis can get. Lemon zest, minerals for days, and a brisk, mouthwatering finish, I couldn’t stop going back to it. It’s got years to go, but I want to drink my last bottle tomorrow. I won’t, but it’s that good right now.

Nice. I’ve had two bottles of the 2014 Vaudesir in the past 2 yearss that were amazing. For tomorrow, I have a bottle of the Mont de Milieu planned. 2014 was a great year here.

David - I could not agree more - I have had 4 of these since release and it is a museum quality specimen of what Chablis can be and sadly is not very often these days. Thanks for the note.

I found this wine had a beguiling combination of tart lemon fruit and chalky salinity. I went through a 6 pack and they all were great.

My last two 2012 BS MdT have been premoxed (the first few were great). Glad to hear the 2014 is still wowing.

Great note, fabulous wine. 2014 was so special in Chablis. The Louis Michel & Duplessis MdTs were pretty great, too.

Last glass tonight is still outstanding.

FWIW, my 2014 Mont de Milieu was premoxed. SWithed to a 2021 Samuel Billaud Sechet, which was stellar.

Nice note! Two recent 1ers from 2014 from Billaud-Simon: Vaillons was good but lacked some Chablis typicity and perhaps was slightly advanced, whereas I had the aforementioned MdT which was stellar and just about as classic as Chablis comes.

Premox still a thing it seems.

When did it go away?

My last bottle of this was pre-premox.

Just the second bottle of three…the other two were wonderful like yours!

Wondering how my Maggie of 02 Les Preuses is doing these days? Anyone have an aged BS of late?
