TN: 2014 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive - STUPENDOUS

With all the lament about ever-increasing wine prices and the beauties all becoming unicorns, this wine is the poster-child for world class wine at an affordable price. And Roilette generally does it year after year. I buy it every year, just grabbed the 2020 for a whopping total of $26.99. That’s a William Kelley 93+ rated wine for dirt cheap.

I’ve been of the opinion for quite some time that 2014 is the finest Beaujolais vintage in a very long time. I say the same for Loire Cabernet Franc (Bordeaux a fave as well). This 2014 Roilette really is phenomenal. Big meaty gamy savory nose. More that than fruit. Dry earth and pine needles. Broad range of red to dark fruits on the palate with a tangy kick. Mineral streak. Very structured, a definite ager. Can easily see this evolving and going for 20+. A chewy, meaty, full-bodied finish. Amazing package for a Beaujolais, transcends the region. This is vin de garde. If you have not loaded up, seek it out. Email me in ten years how awesome this recommendation is. I still thank Keith Levenberg for turning me onto this wine like 15 years ago.

You’ve passed along the good deed - I have you thank! I buy by the case plus mags now.

Oh wait - I mean, I have you to blame!

Blame is so harsh!

BTW, paired this with Flannery dry aged ribeye and NY Strip, cooked rare Pittsburg style. God what a pairing. I think a lower acid, richer red would have been OTT. This wine was perfect for the pairing.

Bought a case of the '20. Looking forward to it

Another data point: 2017 griffe du marquis was also remarkably open just a weeks ago - wasn’t expecting that, but it was defintitely a crowd pleaser.

2014 was such a great Beaujolais vintage. Add Chablis and white Burg to your list as well.

By far my favorite Bojo producer and 2nd place cannot be seen in the rearview, awesome post Alfert!

BTW Have you tried the 19 Griffe d Marquis yet? I did cartwheels for the 17 and am likely to go nuts when I can finally get the 19 - it’s not at my usual source (Vinopolis) yet.

Cheers.

I just bought a case of the 2019. I had a friend try from the same source & was given a hard limit of 4 bottles. This is a wine you may not be able to source at a reasonable price for too long.

I just got my shipping announcement on 19 Griffe and 20 CT bought pre-release. Should arrive tomorrow!

Plus I found a 17 Griffe I forgot I had in my office when I went back on Monday for the first time since March 2020.

Given it was there over 2 summers with no AC on weekends, that one is getting drunk. But it looks ok.

tasty note Robert! Sound exactly how I would like my wines to be after some aging! Bought a case of 19 Tardive and the regular one. Both very tasty already and I found the Tardive pretty concentrated and full of tension. How would you estimate that vintage to age, in line with your '14 writeup?

Picked up 3 from Courtier for $25 each- looking forward to trying them and will report back

The 14 Tardive crushed it on release. I’ve been following it and posting my notes on CT. I agree about 14 Bojo overall as well - high acid and precise fruit and complexity.
