TN: 2014 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena)

  • 2014 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (3/25/2022)
I am really not sure how to fully capture how seamless and delicious this wine is at such an early age. It’s clearly a product of “Sunny St. Helena” and also has a calibrated balance of fruit and structure. Dark plums are merged with warm herbs, as the wine expresses its California fruit married to old world sensibilities. The oak plays a minor supporting role, leaving that benchland fruit to take center stage. Another three to five years will further tame the tannins, but there is no sin in opening a bottle now. Just give it some air (two hours here), and it will sing in the sunshine.

I have always like Corison wines. Started with the ‘94 Cabernet. Our golf club has them in the restaurant and we have them there occasionally. Never disappointed.

Nice tasting note! The newest Bedrock Wine Conversation is an interview with Cathy Corison. Fascinating history of the Kronos and Sunbasket vineyards.

I might be mistaken but I think Hardy worked with her many moons ago.

He worked in their tasting room from what I know. Cathy mentioned it on the Bedrock podcast.

That was a fantastic interview with her in the Bedrock podcast. I’ve had a couple of Long Meadow Ranch Cabs ('95 and '99) in the last few years – I believe she was winemaker there from 1993 - 2003 – and they were showing beautifully. 12.8% and 13.3% abv, respectively on those, BTW.

Yes he did, for a hot minute. It was great to have his energy in the house.
