TN: 2014 Château Calon-Ségur - GORGEOUS!

  • 2014 Château Calon-Ségur - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (1/24/2025)
Truly wow...as others have said, this wine must not have shut down - it has a voluptuous nose, full bouquet of wildflowers, roses, dark fruits, red berry, cassis for days - just wonderful. Nose transitions perfectly to a rich and rewarding palate - heavy silk texture, black and red berry, just enough vanilla to give sweetness without being over-oaked. What a wonderfully made wine, has to be a highlight of the (sleeper) vintage, and likely will get better, but I'm tempted to drink all mine now as it's simply too wonderful at present. If you have this wine, I HIGHLY recommend you open/enjoy it now, one now, save more for later.

Indeed, Todd.

BTW: You are not the first wine board moderator to point out how good the 2014 Calon-Segur is.

Never be first, always be best! (But also what other moderator pointed this out? Can’t be Brig or Fu - Jorge is never here…

I pulled mine from offsite because of notes here and I wish I had taken all of them out

Cool. Dynamite on release but I haven’t had it since. The last Calon at the old prices too…

Try it now

Generally mandatory to save your C-S for opening on Valentine’s Day.

(That’s what Johnny Depp does)

Oh snap! My half-brother is married to Depp’s ex’s sister!

Did he ever give you one of his paintings of a bottle? This is one of the better regarded ones.

Painting by Johnny Depp

In addition to his iconic work in 21 Jump Street, the actor/artist paints his favorite St Estephe.

PS: I drank the 2016 Marquis de Calon the other night, but forgot to pull up this painting, which usually is good for +1 points (JS inflation) of enjoyment.

I also was very impressed by this one not long after release.

All the lights aren’t blinking, Clark!:rofl:

We don’t use blinking lights! So low brow!

JHow on BWE. He touted the 2014 vintage early on and has raved about Calon Segur.

Ah, a moderator ELSEWHERE! Well, he’s correct, in my worthless opinion!

Saved the other half bottle for some Flannery tonight! Just in time to get rid of what’s left of my Flannery stash before buying more on BerserkerDay 16

The 2004 is also brilliant. And young. Difficult not to be addicted

2014 is the first strong release under new ownership, with the new team. Subsequent vintages are even better, 15, 16, 18,19, 20 and 22 rock! Unless you’re Alfret of course

Todd aspires to that!

Love the recent Calon Segur and good to hear on the 2014. We used a 3L bottle of the 2014 as our wedding guest book and had every signing with paint pens. Goal is to open it and invite everyone back in another 15-20 years.

And the 16s and 18s were great value en premier, but I digress.
