I understand exactly what you mean. Maybe I am just still not properly initiated, but from what I’ve heard, the regular Caymus (compared to the SS) is known to be typically very drinkable young. I also did mention in my tasting note that I think that it could improve with some age if it integrates better. If It came off like I was just popping the bottle unaware that I was drinking it extremely young and bashing it for that reason, trust me, that’s not what I was going for.
Just had this yesterday. Caymus in style with the volume much lower than the prior couple of years. I found it drinking well and very enjoyable. Its got good fruit. There is oak, but I have had a lot worse. I think it will drink well for a decade. I get that some might not like it, but a crowd of wino’s certainly did. YMMV.
We went to a tasting a few weekends ago and had it. This vintage is definitely more dialed back than the last two, with bright fruit and oak, but not over the top. They brought six bottles or so and they were all gone within a couple of hours.
