TN: 2013 Seven of Hearts Pinot Noir Bjornson

  • 2013 Seven of Hearts Pinot Noir Bjornson - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (4/23/2017)
Medium to light ruby with light lilac nose. Dry tart tannins on the front with restrained fruit on the second night losing the more forward fruit on opening and becoming much more reserved and balanced toward the acid and tannins. Santa Rosa plums, crunchy and not over ripe with stone fruit tannins. Night three, elderberry nose, restrained elderberries, balanced fruit, acid and stemmy tannins with a bit of bitter, leather, earthy and forest elements of balsam, mushroom and fiddle head ferns. Getting better every day. Finishing the last glass tonight, nicely balanced and restrained with a little calcareous mineral helping smooth out the acid. (91 pts.)

a couple previous notes:

  • 2013 Seven of Hearts Pinot Noir Bjornson - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (4/8/2017)
Medium ruby, nose of red currants and strawberries. Dry, mildly tart red berries, medium body and fruit which is becoming more restrained after a few days open. Nicely balanced with the acid and tannins complementing the fruit. Drinking nicely now with a hint of fresh fruit, some light chalky minerals on the after tastel (90 pts.)

  • 2013 Seven of Hearts Pinot Noir Bjornson - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (4/14/2017)
Medium ruby, lilac and rose nose. Dry with some lightly astringent tannins on opening, light acid and restrained fruit. A good balance, but still needs some time to lose the rough edges. Coming along fine after several more days, tannins have integrated nicely (89 pts.)

Another 6 month bottle age is paying off nicely:

Medium light ruby with an earthy light ginger nose. Dry, light acid with restrained fruit and lighter body and some earthy wet stone tannins. Good balance on the reserved side and drinking well now with a bit more age for the AFWE old world bunch. (91 pts.)
