2013 Sandler Wine Company Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/31/2014)
Where to start, where to start. Ya-ha, let me try ‘The beginning’.
Needs at LEAST an hour decant right now. Color is dark, almost Syrah-like. Nose of black berries and black raspberries with a hint of cardamom. Palate is dense with a wonderful black fruited profile. Tannins are chewy and acidity rides high. After some intense swirling you can start appreciating it as a complete package. It certainly is a 180 from last weeks 2013 Sandler Bien Nacido. This is dark and complex with so much packed into it it is almost mesmerizing. I get the wonderful aforementioned fruits on the palate with the added bonus of some darker strawberries. Coaxing brings almost a blue-ness out of it. What I really dig tonight is the overall luxurious mouthfeel and finish. The former is complicated and intense and the latter is long and true. I will return to the well on this and hold until next ‘Pinot’ season on my back deck—next summer. (91 pts.)
