TN: 2013 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard

2013 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard - USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros (11/24/2017)
David Ramey hits the bullseye again with this edition of the Hyde Chardonnay. It has that characteristic mid-palate spice, but it’s wrapped in a much more elegant package this vintage. I do not often use the word delicate when describing California Chardonnay, but it applied here. Beautiful wine that stands at the top with other great Chardonnays of the world.

Love what Ramey does with Hyde fruit.

David, Carlos—thank you.

Have not had a Ramey in quite a while.

Mr. Bueker: how would you compare the Ramey Hydes to the Ceritas line-up?

Well very different site expressions…

Ceritas strikes me as leaner, though the Ramey Chardonnays seem a bit sleeker than they used to be. Still, I prefer the little bit of extra heft in the Ramey wines.

Are they less oaky than the Hudson’s. Found the 12’s of that to br overly oaky.

I did not find this overly oaky at all.

Haven’t had Hudson in a while, but IIRC it was lower acid that Hyde, which might show off oak a bit more.

That being said, I thought 2011was the last Ramey Hudson Chard.

I think that is correct. Just making a comparison to the last Ramey I tasted.
